BALTICFEST: Liverpool Psych Lab

Liverpool Psych Lab at BALTICFEST will take over the new events space at Chapters of Us (Simpson Street) on the first night of the festival. The Psych Lab will be an immersive, audio-visual art space curated by Thee Lucifer Sams, bringing you the atmosphere of the Liverpool Psychedelic Society events.

Besides wall projections and psychedelic lights, there’ll be musical instruments you can experiment with; a Dreamachine; Liverpool Psychedelic Society photo & poster exhibition; and art exhibition showcasing the works of three local artists – MartyArts, Lo Tierney and Peter Scott.

PLEASE NOTE: All DJ & Live Music events will take place outdoors, and public attendance will be limited to the outdoor seating normally provided by the venues involved, i.e. first come, first served – venues might reserve the right to turn attendees away if no more tables are available, so come early! All events will comply with the most up-to-date Health & Safety advice and regulations in place, including social distancing, track & trace, sound levels as ambient backing music etc. For any queries, please contact us.

Immersive Atmosphere

The events space in Chapters of Us will be transformed, with lights and visuals reproducing the atmosphere of the Liverpool Psychedelic Society events.

A photo and poster exhibition will tell the story of past Liverpool Psychedelic Society events, which took place not just in Liverpool but also other cities in England, Morocco and Vietnam, and featured artists from the UK, USA, Japan, Brazil, France and other countries.

Play an Instrument

Visitors to the Liverpool Psych Lab are invited to try a range of different instruments, including synths, keyboards and a theremin.

The Dreamachine

The Dreamachine (also known as Dream Machine) is a stroboscopic device designed by artist Brion Gysin in 1959, when he showcased the original one in the Louvre, Paris.

It’s an object to be “viewed” with your eyes closed – the light flickering through it’s cutout shapes is said to stimulate your brain.

Lo Tierney

Lo is a queer, autistic artist based in Liverpool, and will be showcasing some colourful and inspiring art. Lo is also founder of the Spectrum Exhibition, celebrating people with autism.

Besides being a regular Coffee and Turntables guest DJ, MartyArts is an artist who finds inspiration in graffiti, street art and hip-hop culture, to create unique and vibrant works.
